Funding
SSS Prosthetics and Orthotics understand the intricacies of working with various funding agencies, and have extensive knowledge of working with NDIS, Workcover, DVA, NIISQ, Department of Health and other funding bodies.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a program designed to provide eligible Australians with a permanent and significant disability with reasonable and necessary supports to achieve their goals, participate in their community, enjoy employment and improve their wellbeing.
If you are aged btw 9 and 65 yrs, are an Australian citizen or permanent resident, you may be eligible for NDIS services. All patients can have their eligibility assessed by National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). All Amputees under the age of 65 are eligible (providing they are not covered under another insurance scheme).

SSS Prosthetics and Orthotics are a registered NDIS provider for orthotic and prosthetic treatments. We suggest that at your first contact with your NDIA planner, you can request an appointment with SSS to discuss your Prosthetic / Orthotic requirements to ensure that you have the adequate items included in your plan to meet your current and future needs. Our Prosthetist and Orthotist will work closely with you to develop an individual treatment plan to best suit your needs and achieve the best and most comfortable functional outcomes.

The Queensland Artificial Limb Service (QALS) is the administration service responsible for the provision of definitive prosthetic services to eligible residents of Queensland.
The person requiring the funding support for definitive prosthetic services must be:
- Be aged 65 years or older;
- be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or a holder of a protected special category visa (SCV);
- be listed on a current and open resident (Green) Medicare Card
- have completed an ‘interim rehabilitation program’ at an amputee clinic, been assessed and deemed competent and suitable to use a prosthetic limb.
- Not be obtaining prosthetic funding support or services through another Government agency or state service.
Applicants are required to complete a client registration form to register as a QALS client. Applications for QALS funded prostheses or prosthetic services are submitted to QALS by an applicant’s treating prosthetist on behalf of the applicant.
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) is a department of the Australian Government. They provide support, services and information for:
- veterans and their dependants
- serving and former serving ADF members
- war widow/ers
- Australian British Nuclear Tests participants
- members of the Australian Federal Police and
- students, teachers and historians.
Veterans who hold a gold card can access a various range of services and support, including orthoses, off the shelf bracing, prosthetic supports and medical grade footwear through DVA footwear scheme. The white card holder can access services for accepted service-related injuries or conditions.

Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme (MASS) is a subsidy funding for medical aids and equipment is available to eligible Queenslanders with permanent/stable conditions or disabilities.
You may be eligible for assistance under MASS if:
- You are a permanent resident of Queensland.
- You have a permanent or stable condition or disability.
- You hold one of the following eligibility cards in your own name:
- Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card
- Centrelink Health Care Card
- Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Pensioner Concession Card (conditions apply)
- Queensland Government Seniors Card
- meet the clinical criteria for each aid.
A private consultant (for example Orthopaedic surgeon, Vascular surgeon, medical specialist) will prescribe referral and then you will need to arrange a clinical assessment by a health professional (clinician) approved by MASS. The health care provider authorised to prescribe particular types of aids and equipment may vary depending on the type of aids that are required.
The National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIISQ) supports participants who have been seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident in Queensland.
Anyone who experiences serious personal injuries as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Queensland, on or after 1 July 2016, may be eligible to receive support from NIISQ.
In line with the NIISQ Act, an eligible serious personal injury includes:
- Permanent spinal cord injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Multiple or high-level limb amputations
- Permanent injury to the brachial plexus
- Severe burns, and
- Permanent blindness caused by trauma.
If you meet the above criteria to apply, you, or someone or your behalf, will need to complete an application form and have a qualified medical specialist complete the medical certificate. Applications for NIISQ often occur when you are in a Queensland Health facility, with support from a social worker. However, applications are accepted at any time post-injury and will each be individually reviewed for eligibility through NIISQ.

WorkCover’s Accident Insurance Policy covers you and your workers if a work-related injury or illness happens.
- Get medical treatment from a medical practitioner.
- Report your work-related incident.
- Get a Medical Certificate and supporting documents.
- Fill out and lodge your workers’ compensation claim form.
- WorkCover Assesses Your Case.
- You may then be eligible for any injury related orthoses on approval with WorkCover.

The Home Care Package program has been designed to:
To assist older adults to continuing living at home rather than moving into residential care
To provide personalised care and support based on individual needs and preferences.
Any older person 65 or over (or 50 and over for First Nations people) who needs coordinated services to help them stay at home, or. a younger person with a disability, dementia or other care needs not met through other specialist services.
The Federal Government’s, www.myagedcare.gov.au is your first port of call when looking to access a Home Care Package. You can have a look around at the helpful information and then reach out via phone on 1800 200 422. The operator will take you through a quick screening in order to assess your needs and based on that assessment, they will determine your eligibility.
Once approved, you then may be eligible for orthotic supports through your package.
